The book came out of the Hajimete no Literary Club, a project run with YOASOBI. YOASOBI built a new song from the novel, KILLA, scheduled for release within the year. Ayase and ikura both gave comments on the creation.
Hajimete no Literary Club was framed as a search for the writers who will carry the next generation, and its first book now has a YOASOBI song attached to it, which ties the unit's novel-to-music format to an outside author's debut rather than a text the unit picked up on its own.

The publication date and the song date are two separate things. The novel is out now through Suirinsha. KILLA is not, only promised for some point within the year. The two are being sold together in the meantime.

An Audible reading video for the novel, carrying part of KILLA, goes up at noon on October 16. Kinokuniya Shinjuku and Umeda give one bookmark per copy purchased, while supplies last. A recorded message from the two YOASOBI members plays on the floors of both stores through November 6.

The song title is KILLA, and it shares its source with the book. YOASOBI's Ayase and ikura both gave comments, which is the part that will decide whether this reads as a real collaboration or a promotional tie-in.
KILLA was built from Maya Byo's novel, not attached to it after. Whether the song stands alone is the test of the project.
KILLA is credited to YOASOBI and comes from Maya Byo's novel, so the pairing runs both directions: text first, then song. Ayase and ikura both gave comments, which signals the band is treating this as a real work and not a tie-in single.
Suirinsha published Maya Byo's debut novel I Want to Kill My Senpai, So I Cross-Dress on October 16, 2026.
