Average selling prices reached record highs of $529 for Xbox and $597 for PlayStation. Piscatella says a major November title may ease the decline, depending on inventory.","whyItMatters":"Consoles are now selling in smaller numbers at higher prices, which puts the market's near-term recovery on a single November release and on component supply rather than on either platform's own momentum.","webCardHtml":"\u003cp\u003eBoth figures come from Circana\u0026#39;s US Retail Tracking Service, covering January through August 2026. Prices moved the other way: the average US Xbox console sold for $529, up 26% year-on-year, and the average PlayStation for $597, up 20%, both record highs. Component costs and console price increases are the stated pressure. Piscatella\u0026#39;s own caveat is inventory, not demand: a major November title, which he suggests is likely Grand Theft Auto VI, may ease the decline only if units are on shelves. Take-Two\u0026#39;s CEO has restated the game\u0026#39;s November 19 release date.\u003c/p\u003e","blueskyPost":"Average selling prices hit record highs of $529 for Xbox and $597 for PlayStation while unit sales fall. Discounting is what would move units, and neither platform is doing it.","twitterPost":"Xbox and PlayStation unit sales fell while average prices hit records of $529 and $597. Cheaper hardware, not Grand Theft Auto VI, is what would move units.","threadsPost":"The US console slump is a price problem. Circe data via Mat Piscatella shows Xbox average selling prices at a record $529 and PlayStation at $597 while unit sales drop. Discounting is the lever nobody is pulling, which is why Grand Theft Auto VI in November is being asked to do the work.","newsletterBlurb":"US console hardware kept sliding through August 2026, with Xbox units down 33% year-on-year and PlayStation down 25% to a level last seen in 2013, according to Circana data posted by Mat Piscatella. Average selling prices reached record highs of $529 and $597 respectively. Piscatella says a major November title may ease the decline, but availability of RAM and other components will decide how much inventory reaches shelves.","attributionJson":"[{\"source\":\"Game Spark\",\"url\":\"http://www.gamespark.jp/article/2026/10/12/173515.html\",\"title\":\"Xbox hardware sales at lowest pace ever, PlayStation hardware also at 13-year low; US game console market continues to struggle, can November's 'GTA6' turn things around?\"}]","lintFlagsJson":null,"lintHits":0,"costUsd":0,"inputTokens":4724,"outputTokens":641,"status":"published","repairAttempts":0,"nextRepairAt":null,"factsAttemptedAt":1791799636,"createdAt":"2026-10-12T10:02:29.000Z","publishedAt":"2026-10-12T10:06:09.000Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-12T10:06:09.000Z"},"cluster":{"id":"c_42eb48dc1fe0009eda619aa3","canonicalTitle":"XBOXハード販売台数は過去最低ペース、PSハードも13年ぶりの最低水準に。不振続く米ゲーム機市場、11月発売の『GTA6』で巻き返しなるか","representativeArticleId":"a_c813cd101c795744a8892c85","sourceCount":1,"writtenSourceCount":1,"writeAttempts":0,"isSolo":true,"entitiesJson":"{\"anime_titles\":[],\"manga_titles\":[],\"work_titles\":[\"Grand Theft Auto VI\"],\"studios\":[],\"people\":[],\"type\":\"news\",\"domain\":\"games\",\"is_roundup\":false}","contentType":"news","status":"published","firstSeenAt":"2026-10-12T09:15:03.000Z","lastSeenAt":"2026-10-12T09:15:03.000Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-12T10:06:07.000Z"},"attribution":[{"source":"Game Spark","url":"http://www.gamespark.jp/article/2026/10/12/173515.html","title":"XBOXハード販売台数は過去最低ペース、PSハードも13年ぶりの最低水準に。不振続く米ゲーム機市場、11月発売の『GTA6』で巻き返しなるか"}],"entities":{"anime_titles":[],"manga_titles":[],"work_titles":["Grand Theft Auto VI"],"studios":[],"people":[],"type":"news","domain":"games","is_roundup":false},"keyFacts":null}
