Because distribution is random, some PCs have the notification and others do not. The author's own machines show the split, with one in regular use updated and others still waiting.
The staged, randomized rollout and the enablement package path mean most users will see the update arrive on Microsoft's schedule rather than their own, so the practical change this week is a version number, not a feature set.

The 26H2 enablement package moves a PC from 25H2 to 26H2, then the September 2026 D update takes it to OS build 26300.9550. The final 25H2 build, 26200.9550, shipped on September 22, a week before 26H2 arrived. On ARM hardware the same order applies, though the enablement package did not land immediately. Turning on "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" in Windows Update is described as raising the priority of distribution. That shrinks the install itself, but the staged rollout means identical PCs sit on 25H2 until Microsoft's random draw reaches them.
Windows 11 26H2 ships as an enablement package, so the download is small. The random rollout order is what leaves identical PCs split.
Windows 11 26H2 moves machines to build 26300.9457 through an enablement package, which keeps the download light. The part users feel is the rollout: distribution is random, so one PC in regular use updates while others wait on the same 25H2.
Windows 11 Ver.26H2 began rolling out on September 29, 2026, moving PCs from 25H2 to 26H2 by enablement package and then to OS build 26300.9550.
