Login credentials are not compromised; instead, third parties bypass the sign-in check, and two-step verification or passkeys do not stop it. Affected users can check Family Management on PS5 or in the PS App, PlayStation Family, or a browser. Parental controls can restrict a child account, but users cannot delete one themselves and must ask PlayStation Support.
A parent account can cap a rogue child account at zero yen, but with no self-service deletion and no way to block creation, the only real remedy sits with PlayStation Support.

Two-step verification and passkeys do not block the behavior, and neither does the PS5 Family and Parental Controls setting that restricts account creation, since that option only covers accounts made on that console. Creation happens online instead.

Checking takes a few steps: Family and Parental Controls, then Family Management on the PS5, or a sign-in through the PS App, PlayStation Family, or a web browser. A parent account can apply restrictions to a child account, including setting the usage limit to 0 yen, which is the default. Deletion is not available to users and requires a request to PlayStation Support. 4Gamer has asked Sony Interactive Entertainment for comment.

PlayStation Accounts are being hit by child accounts created without the owner's sign-in.
