Rein works at Beast's Fangs, loses his spot when the guildmaster tries out firing non-combat staff, and recalls every enchantment he ever cast on the guild's gear. He pours them into his own clothes and dagger, then sets out as an adventurer.
The premiere clears its expulsion setup in about four minutes, and the review's point is that the show's comedy comes from the situations around Rein rather than from the joke of an overpowered lead.

The departure is quick. Rein is out of Beast's Fangs within the opening stretch, and the episode spends over 20 seconds of that on him screaming through the title screen. What follows is his response: he recalls the enchantments he placed on the guild's weapons and armor and applies them to plain clothing and a dagger he already owns.

The review reads the early maxed-out upgrade as a signal that long training arcs are unlikely, and notes the self-awareness holds through the back half instead of dropping back into straight trope play. The art, animation, and sound effects are cited as the parts that keep the comedy committed.

Rein's cheat works because the guild wrote him off as non-combat staff. The enchantments he banked on their gear only pay off once nobody expects him to use them.
Rein's cheat is the guild's own gear. Firing the enchanter is what arms him.
Rein's power in The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life comes from enchantments he already cast on Beast's Fangs gear. The guildmaster's cost-cutting is what turns that banked work into a personal arsenal.
The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life gets a first-impression write-up.
