Players organize records, dragging keywords from chats, emails and logs into a search field; cross-searching two words restores hidden records and audio logs. The full game is slated for 2027 with Japanese, Korean, English and Chinese support.
A one-developer, two-hour deduction game is betting on the cross-search mechanic rather than the penguin premise, and the demo is the only way to test whether that search loop carries a story before the 2027 release.

The demo covers the game's core loop: players hired to clean up the incident work through a malfunctioning server, pulling words from the crew's chats, emails and camera records into a search field. Combining two words in a cross-search restores deleted records and audio logs, and the recovered fragments build the station's final timeline.

Dev99 describes the story as a mystery with black comedy, following how the crew's failures, made in the name of survival, push Amundsen-4 into an irreversible situation. Once the timeline connects, the player chooses whether to leave the evidence under the ice or hand it to headquarters for a reward. The full release is slated for 2027.

The Emperor Penguin Incident's search field only works if you already know which two words belong together. The demo asks players to guess the right pairing before it will hand over the record.
The Emperor Penguin Incident turns search syntax into the puzzle. Two keywords, one restored record, no browsing.
The Emperor Penguin Incident gates every record behind a two-word cross-search, so you cannot read the station logs until you guess which terms the dead crew filed under. The penguin story is the surface; the search box is the actual antagonist.
Korean solo developer Dev99 released a Steam demo on October 1 for The Emperor Penguin Incident, a short text deduction mystery set at an Antarctic research station whose records blame the crew's deaths on an emperor penguin attack.
