All release November 27 at open pricing, with estimated street prices around 655,000 yen, 347,000 yen, and 215,000 yen respectively. All three adopt Android 16, a high-efficiency SoC, and newly support LDAC, LC3, and aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codecs.
Sony is putting its third-generation flagship and a rebuilt mid-range model out on the same day, a bet that the 300,000-yen-and-above segment holds even as the domestic portable market shrinks by unit volume.

Sony is refreshing both the flagship WM1 line and the ZX line at once, and the shared changes are the platform, not the amplifier. All three players move to Android 16 with a high-efficiency SoC, which let Sony quote roughly 35 hours of streaming playback on the WM1 series and the same figure on the ZX900, plus about 40 hours of local MP3 playback on the ZX900.

The display also changed: the WM1 series goes from 5.0-inch to 5.5-inch Full HD, while the ZX900 stays 5.0-inch but moves from HD to Full HD. Sony's DSD Remastering Engine at 11.2MHz and DSEE Ultimate now work inside third-party streaming apps.

The Walkman line's real pivot is software. Android 16 plus LDAC, LC3, and aptX Adaptive puts Sony's audio players on Android's update clock, not Sony's old firmware cycle.
Android 16 on a Walkman means Sony's audio players now share Android's update schedule, not a Sony-only firmware cycle.
Android 16 on the NW-WM1ZM3, NW-WM1AM3, and NW-ZX900 means Sony's flagship audio players now live on Google's update clock. Playback hardware has been Sony's strength. Long-term software support has not, and that is the part Android 16 changes.
Sony announced three Walkman players on October 16: the flagship NW-WM1ZM3 and NW-WM1AM3, plus the upper-mid-range NW-ZX900.
