AliceSoft developed the original game, which came out in 2006 as the seventh entry in the Rance series. The story follows protagonist Rance and his partner Sill as they visit the eastern country called JAPAN, where Rance becomes a provincial lord and fights to unify the realm. Players manage territory, armies, and generals in a region conquest simulation, with turn-based tactical battles and branching story events. Recruitable generals each have unique abilities and personal scenarios, and the game supports repeated playthroughs with carried-over elements. The Steam release is planned with a Japanese interface and subtitles. Kagura Games' social media account lists October 2, while the Steam store page lists October 1, a difference attributed to time zone factors.
The Steam store page is not set to an adults-only rating, so the direct release likely has adjusted content, with an adult-content restoration patch expected separately on the publisher's site, and numbered Rance titles Rance 01 + 02, Rance 03, and Rance IX are announced for sequential Steam releases.

The release window split between Kagura Games' social media account and the Steam store page is not the only detail worth tracking. A patch to restore those elements is expected to arrive separately through the publisher, matching how past localized titles from the same publisher were handled.

Sengoku Rance first appeared in 2006 as the seventh Rance game, a series that began in 1989. The combat uses turn-based tactical battles where unit types, skills, and action order decide outcomes, and recruiting generals unlocks individual scenarios. Dungeon exploration and hunting also feed resources and equipment back into the campaign. Clearing the game opens a branching story, and later runs carry over selected progress. More numbered entries, including Rance 01 + 02, Rance 03, and Rance IX, are announced for Steam in sequence.

The Steam store page for Sengoku Rance is not set to adults-only, so the direct release likely has adjusted content.
