Listings will be updated by November 12. Buyers of Megascans or the Quixel Bundle on or after January 1, 2025 get the purchase amount refunded to their Epic account balance by the end of 2026, after logging in and accepting the latest terms.
Epic's 2024 move to charge for Megascans after the Fab launch is being reversed with refunds, and the updated terms now let the same scanned assets, plus the free Megaplants vegetation library, be used to train AI models.

The refund window covers every purchase of Megascans or the Quixel Bundle made on or after January 1, 2025, the date the library became paid when Fab opened. Buyers need to log in with an Epic account and accept the latest terms of use to receive the money, which lands in their Epic account balance by the end of 2026.

Quixel built the library by scanning real objects and terrain, and Automaton puts its catalog at more than 17,000 photorealistic models and textures as of 2024. The assets are not tied to Unreal Engine: each one works in any engine or tool that reads its format. The terms update also covers Quixel Megaplants, the vegetation library that stayed free, and now permits use for AI model training.

Quixel's refund window is capped by the calendar, not the purchase: buyers from January 1, 2025 get Epic balance credit by the end of 2026, so the money comes back as store credit with an expiry year attached.
Quixel refunds Megascans buyers in Epic balance, not cash, and only those who bought on or after January 1, 2025.
Quixel is refunding Megascans purchases as Epic account balance rather than money back, and only for buyers from January 1, 2025 onward, credited by the end of 2026. The library going free on Fab is the visible part. The refund mechanics decide who actually recovers anything.
Quixel said on November 6 that the whole Megascans library is free on Fab again, with listings updated by November 12. Anyone who bought Megascans or the Quixel Bundle on or after January 1, 2025 gets the amount back in Epic account balance by the end of 2026, provided they accept the latest terms. Those terms also cover Megaplants and allow the assets to be used for AI model training.
[{"source":"Automaton","url":"https://automaton-media.com/articles/newsjp/20261106-477833/","title":"Ultra-realistic asset library "Quixel Megascans" is now free again.
