The Steam news post gives the purpose as eliminating bugs, gathering feedback, and polishing the game. The playtest includes a hardcore mode and a secret third mode, with details to come. The game has a 5-million-needle haystack and is scheduled for Q4 2026 on Windows via Steam.
The concept video drew over 54 million views in August, and the storefronts have since filled with imitations, so this playtest is the original trying to convert viral attention into a finished product before the clones do.

The playtest announcement came through a Steam news post, not a press event. The stated goal is bug elimination, feedback, and polish, which is the language of a build that still needs work before Q4 2026.

The hardcore mode is the detail worth watching. The core loop is finding one needle among 5 million, and the game already asks a lot of the player. A mode pitched at people who enjoy suffering suggests the team knows the joke and is willing to lean on it. The third mode is unnamed. Details are promised soon.

Studio Bitdot's capsule art carries an ORIGINAL logo. Since the August concept video spread, Steam searches for the term have returned a crowd of similar games, and one later developer complained that another imitator copied its code.

A 5-million-needle haystack makes the search itself the content, so Needle In A Haystack Simulator's playtest is really testing whether players tolerate a deliberately unwinnable task.
Needle In A Haystack Simulator hides a secret third mode behind a 5-million-needle search. The playtest measures patience, not bugs.
Needle In A Haystack Simulator's 5-million-needle haystack turns the search into the whole game. The playtest's secret third mode suggests Studio Bitdot knows the joke needs a payoff beyond raw tedium.
Polden Publishing and Studio Bitdot will run a playtest for Needle In A Haystack Simulator next week, framed as bug fixing and polish. It adds a hardcore mode and a third mode that is still unnamed. The game is due in Q4 2026 on Windows via Steam.
[{"source":"Game Spark","url":"http://www.gamespark.jp/article/2026/10/24/174039.html","title":"Original "haystack" game "Needle In A Haystack Simulator" holds playtest next week - includes "hardcore" mode for people who enjoy suffering\
{"anime_titles":[],"manga_titles":[],"work_titles":["Needle In A Haystack Simulator: 干し草の中の針"],"studios":[],"people":[],"type":"news","domain":"games","is_roundup":false}
["Needle In A Haystack Simulator: 干し草の中の針
