The review notes the episode's sexualized imagery, including full and partial nudity, upskirting, panty shots, and a sexual assault carried out by villains, and finds the assault scene poorly judged. It also praises the English dub and Kousuke's voice performance.
The premiere builds its premise on an eroge world where sexualized teenagers are the norm, and the review argues the assault scene is used to make Kousuke look heroic, which colors how the show's core gimmick will read going forward.

The premiere opens with Kousuke at his computer playing a bishojo game that the review describes as bordering on a soft eroge, then moves him into that game's world as the hated side character. His large mana pool is the one advantage the setup gives him. Anime Feminist notes that the episode carries a content warning for sexualized imagery, upskirting, panty shots, blood, and sexual assault, and that the assault scene lands badly, with the review measuring it against a real case it had been covering. The review also singles out the English dub and Kousuke's vocal performance as the strongest parts of an episode it otherwise struggled with.

Magical Explorer pairs its eroge imagery with an isekai premise where the protagonist is a background extra, and the review's assault complaint lands on the framing rather than the source material.
Magical Explorer's assault scene draws criticism for framing, and the English dub earns praise in the same review.
Magical Explorer Episode 1 puts its lead in the forgettable side-character role, but the review's objection to the assault scene is about execution, not the bishojo game premise. The episode's upskirting and panty shots sit in the same frame as that sequence.
Anime Feminist reviews Magical Explorer episode 1, where Kousuke lands in his favorite bishojo game as the side character instead of the hero. The review flags the episode's sexualized imagery and a villain sexual assault it says is staged to make Kousuke look heroic, and calls out the shift once he is placed as a teenager in a magical academy. The dub and Kousuke's voice performance get the review's praise.
[{"source":"Anime Feminist","url":"https://www.animefeminist.com/magical-explorer-episode-1/","title":"Magical Explorer - Episode 1\
{"anime_titles":["Magical Explorer"],"manga_titles":[],"work_titles":[],"studios":[],"people":[],"type":"review","domain":"anime","is_roundup":false}
["Magical Explorer
