Parsons wore a Valve hoodie while saying it, and he has visited Valve's office twice, in June 2026 and September 2026. He has said the Portal series inspired the film.
Parsons has already said Portal shaped Backrooms and that he was exploring an adaptation with caution, so a Valve hoodie plus two office visits turns a stray comment into the closest thing to a signal yet, even with nothing confirmed.

Parsons kept the details under wraps in the video, joking that he would be "targeted by space lasers" and that "the other party can see through walls" if he said more. The hoodie and the office visits did the talking instead. He has been open about the influence: at the Japan stage greeting for "Backrooms" he said he had played Portal, Portal 2, and Half-Life since childhood, and that Portal in particular shaped the film. Asked previously by Kyle Buchanan whether he wanted to make a Portal film, he said he was exploring the possibility "with caution and curiosity." The video did not mention an adaptation directly.

Kane Parsons says the Portal series inspired Backrooms, and he has been to Valve's office twice this year. A Valve hoodie in a promo video is doing a lot of suggestive work for a director with no announced Valve project.
Kane Parsons credits Portal as an inspiration for Backrooms and has visited Valve's office twice. The hoodie reads as a signal, not a project.
Kane Parsons built Backrooms partly on Portal's influence, and he has now walked into Valve's office twice, in June 2026 and September 2026. Wearing the hoodie while announcing three dream projects is the kind of hint that costs nothing to deny later.
Kane Parsons, director of the Backrooms film, said in a Kyle Buchanan channel video that he is working on three "dream projects." He wore a Valve hoodie while saying it and has visited Valve's office twice in 2026.
