Mod Sween said on Reddit that Jagex did not direct AI use and that an external partner had confirmed it would not use GenAI. Days earlier, 100 Thieves admitted AI was used in Old School RuneScape collaboration apparel.
Two AI problems through trusted partners in the same week mean Jagex's vetting of outside work, not its stated policy, is the part that failed.

The trailer ran at RuneFest 2026, held in Birmingham from October 3 to 4. Users flagged a hand with six fingers and armor whose soles read like sneakers, and the video was taken down while Jagex investigates.

Jagex's Mod Sween said on Reddit that the company gave no instruction to use generative AI and that the outside partner had confirmed it would not. The company said two incidents in a short period point to issues in its own processes, and it plans a full review of its review system after RuneFest. For future Dragon Slayer II introductions it will ask community creators to produce them.

Jagex says it did not direct AI use, but the trailer came from an outside partner that had already confirmed it would not use GenAI. The verification gap, not the six fingers, is the problem.
Jagex says it never directed AI use, and blames an external partner that had confirmed in writing it would not use GenAI. That is the failure: a partner warranty Jagex apparently never checked, days after the Old School RuneScape apparel disclosure.
Jagex took down a Dragon Slayer II trailer from RuneFest 2026 after viewers spotted a six-fingered hand and sneaker-like soles.
