Tomoya Oku plays Komei Konan, a character who does not appear in the original novel, and Takamasa Aoki plays Kiyoshi Shimada. Ayatsuji, director Teru Uchikata, and screenwriter Masashi Toda released comments with the announcement.","whyItMatters":"The adaptation writes a character who is absent from the novel into the story, so the screenwriter's stated reason, the pairing of Oku and Aoki from the previous two live-action works, is the production's own justification for changing the source.","webCardHtml":"\u003cp\u003eThe screenwriter, Masashi Toda, said the decision to add Komei Konan was deliberate. In comments released with the announcement, Toda wrote that the production wanted to use the exchanges between Oku and Aoki, who appeared together in the previous two live-action works in the series. The original novel by Yukito Ayatsuji is the second book in his House series and is set in a mansion deep in the mountains, where visitors gather to see a phantom painting by the painter Kazunari Fujinuma.
