The series follows Huan Li, a withdrawn musician grieving his mother's death a month before classes began, and Yang Yu, a sociable university staffer who reads rooms well but has little patience for people. The premiere gives Yang Yu's gay identity a central place, including a scene where he confronts a bully and a closing scene at a gay bar.
The premiere puts a character's explicit gay identity and the way others treat him at the front of the story, which the reviewer notes is rare for the boys' love works they have seen.

The first two episodes of Here U Are screened at New York Comic Con, ahead of a release the reviewer describes as coming soon. The series is a boys' love romance about two university students with opposite temperaments: Huan Li, a tall, emotionally withdrawn musician still processing his mother's death a month before classes started, and Yang Yu, a sociable staffer whose patience for people runs thinner than his manner suggests.

What stood out in the preview is how directly the show handles Yang Yu's gay identity. A confrontation with a bully ends with him coming out and turning it back on the other man; a later scene takes place at a gay bar, where he watches for people causing trouble for the community. The reviewer found the setup relatable and the comedy and character dynamics solid.

Here U Are spends its first two episodes on Yang Yu's gay identity, giving the premiere a scene at a gay bar and one where he confronts a bully. The romance has to grow out of that ground, not around it.
Here U Are builds its premiere around Yang Yu's gay identity, including a gay bar scene. The romance starts after that ground is set.
Here U Are gives Yang Yu's gay identity the center of its first two episodes, including a scene at a gay bar and one where he confronts a bully.
