Moderators described Atatürk as a controversial figure linked to the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Of roughly 19,500 recent reviews over 30 days, 9 percent are positive, leaving Recent Reviews at Overwhelmingly Negative as of September 24, 2026.
The review bomb shows how quickly a moderation call on a Paradox-run community server can be converted into a Steam store page verdict, which is the part a prospective buyer actually sees.

Moderators on the official Discord server said images of assets used in the game are permitted, but that the use of images of controversial figures is not, and banned the user. Criticism followed on X from the user rabitto, who argued that Atatürk's photograph as the founder of Turkey does not in itself express hatred toward Armenians and that evidence is required to tie him to the 1915 events. Turkish historian Emrah Safa Gürkan, described in the report as a heavy Paradox player, also condemned the ban.

Hearts Of Iron IV moderators flagged Atatürk as controversial, and the review score now measures Discord policy, not the game. Paradox's servers become the review channel when Steam is the only place users can push back.
Hearts Of Iron IV's review score now measures Discord moderation, not the game. Paradox's ban is the review's actual subject.
Hearts Of Iron IV's recent reviews collapsed to 9 percent positive after a Discord ban over an Atatürk profile picture. The score is no longer about the strategy game. Paradox's moderation call turned the store page into the only available feedback channel.
Hearts of Iron IV has been review-bombed on Steam after a user was banned from the game's official Discord server for setting an image of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as their profile picture.
