It is the first initiative of a science communication support project the foundation will fully launch next fiscal year. The foundation will fund her for one and a half years and says it will not interfere with her content.
An academic foundation is putting money directly behind an individual VTuber rather than an institution, treating an online science explainer as a legitimate target of academic support.

The Gunjo Foundation names "the promotion of academia" as one of its corporate purposes, and Uisuki Kuria's work sits inside that frame: she explains rocket engineering on YouTube, commentates on live launches, and writes and narrates outside the platform. Chairman Hidetaka Horie's foundation will fund her for one and a half years and says it will fully respect her independence as a creator, with no say over what she publishes. The foundation describes the arrangement as a pioneering case study for backing academic VTubers, and plans to widen the project to other science communicators.

The Gunjo Foundation's money comes with no editorial control, and that is the unusual part: a 1.5-year term lets Uisuki Kuria explain rocket engineering without sponsor review.
A 1.5-year funding term buys Gunjo Foundation silence on content. For Uisuki Kuria, that is the real sponsor value.
Gunjo Foundation's sponsorship of Uisuki Kuria runs 1.5 years and comes with a no-interference clause. For a science communicator explaining rocket engineering, the clause matters more than the money: most sponsor deals trade funding for input, and this one trades funding for distance.
The Gunjo Foundation, based in Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture, has become a sponsor of Uisuki Kuria, a VTuber who explains rocket engineering on YouTube.
