The trial previously ran for 14 days. The level cap increase from 50 to 75, applied on September 10, remains in place alongside the change, so trial players can develop characters at their own pace. Character data carries over to the retail version, which is available for PC.
The two changes work as one: with no trial clock and a higher level ceiling, Square Enix is betting that the long-running MMO's trial converts better when players set their own pace rather than race a deadline.

Square Enix confirmed the change in an announcement on September 30, and the official Final Fantasy XI account promoted the trial's revised terms the same day. The level cap raise from 50 to 75 arrived earlier, on September 10, and was restated in the announcement rather than newly applied.

The trial keeps restrictions on some functions and content, and character data made inside it transfers to the retail version once a registration code is purchased. Final Fantasy XI is currently available for PC, and the trial is offered through the Square Enix e-STORE.

Final Fantasy XI's trial now lets players reach the level 75 cap before paying, which pushes the first paid month later for anyone who levels at a normal pace.
Final Fantasy XI trial players can now hit the level 75 cap before ever paying, moving the first subscription decision to after the free content runs out.
Final Fantasy XI's trial now runs with no time limit and keeps the level 75 cap from the September 10 change. That pairing means a new player can finish the free portion of the game at their own speed, so the real gate on converting to retail is no longer the clock but how far the trial content actually goes.
Square Enix removed the 14-day usage period from the Final Fantasy XI free trial on September 30, and restated the level cap raise from 50 to 75 that took effect September 10.
