The release date was announced on Sony's State of Play stream, just days after a turbulent August 2026 announcement that changed the game's development structure and publisher. Originally planned for sale by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the publisher role shifted to Aniplex. At a media session held around Tokyo Game Show 2026, Aniplex staff said nothing was abandoned because of the structural change, and content was neither cut nor reduced. The game is a remake of Fate/EXTRA, the first RPG in the Fate series, set in the Moon Holy Grail War inside SE.RA.PH. A new trailer appeared in 2022, and a release delay was announced in 2025. Counting from the July 2020 announcement, the wait has run about six years. Aniplex also outlined game systems and the roles of partner characters Saber and Archer.
The release date arrives alongside early purchase bonuses like the Tsukimihara Academy Uniform costume set, and both the eShop and retail listings show the game at 7,282 yen, concrete signals that a title long delayed and reassigned is now being positioned for sale.

The remake's development changed hands to Meteorise, the studio behind Valkyrie Drive -Bhikkhuni-, after director Kazuya Niinou left TYPE-MOON Studio BB.
