With an estimated 99% of votes counted, Johnson took 5,133,762 votes (52.4%) to Mayes Middleton's 4,502,859 (45.9%) and Tom Oxford's 165,574 (1.7%). Johnson, a Democrat, has served as a Texas state senator for District 16.
The result puts an anime dub credit on a statewide ballot line, and the same election cycle saw a Sailor Moon voice actor lose a Toronto council race, which is where the crossover between anime talent and electoral politics now sits.

Johnson declared his win on Tuesday and called it "a tremendous honor, and a tremendous responsibility." He ran as a Democrat against Mayes Middleton and Tom Oxford.

The vote count was not the only anime-adjacent item from the midterms. His 5,133,762 votes for Texas Attorney General came from a far wider electorate than any dub fanbase, which is why the composer line reads as trivia in statewide coverage.
Nathan Johnson, a composer on the Dragon Ball Z English dub, won his bid for Texas Attorney General, taking 52.4% with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
