The new arc follows Oikatzo asking Sunraku and Arthur to help him win an eight-player tournament, with each round fought against a timer while Oikatzo races to arrive for his anchor turn. Episode two gives Arthur a villain role in the fighting simulation game, and audience reactions in the theater matched what the characters themselves were watching.
Season three skips past the tournament that season two stopped short of, and the premiere pairing of story-within-a-story stakes with a live crowd shows how the series' narrower focus on gamers playing games holds up as event programming rather than a plot twist.

Crunchyroll brought the first two episodes of Shangri-La Frontier's third season to New York Comic Con 2026, picking up the arc that season two ended just before.
